About Us

Dear friends and colleagues,

We would like you to join the Iranian Human Rights Consortium in the United States (IHRC-US). This organization was formed in association with Sociologists without Borders (an international group of social scientists and concerned world citizens devoted to constructive social change). IHRC-US aims to advance human rights in Iran through non-violence. Specifically, we hope to:

  • Advocate the rights of political prisoners in Iran
  • Advocate social change through nonviolence
  • Oppose all forms of violence practiced by, or aimed against, the Iranian people and government
  • Publicize violations of human rights in Iran using up-to-date reports (e.g., photos, videos, text) from Iranian people, news agencies, and other sources using up-to-date reports (e.g., photos, videos, text) from Iranian people, news agencies, and other sources
  • Encourage the Iranian government through nonviolence (petitions, letters, protests) to broaden its protections of human rights in Iran, particularly for religious minorities and women
  • Collect and disseminate reliable scholarly research about the complexity of Iranian culture and people
  • Provide a forum for Iranian people to discuss their views about their nation and share their experiences with other interested parties
  • Provide mentorship and support for students and scholars whose research addresses human rights in Iran

Some of these objectives are already being met through other organizations (Amnesty International, Code Pink’s Prevent War with Iran, Council for a Livable World, Human Rights Watch, Iran Human Rights Documentation Center, and Iranian Political Prisoner Association). However, there is no single  organization solely devoted to promoting a broad range of human rights in Iran using direct reports from Iranian people themselves. With the exception of isolated postings on YouTube, there is no single entity that offers up-to-the-minute coverage of human rights violations in Iran by welcoming Iranian people to post their images and videos. We hope to create a website through which such information is made available to Iranian people, in particular, and all other interested parties. Additionally, we will produce a monthly report that can be viewed on our website or directly emailed to you at your request. Finally, a web log, or “blog,” will provide a venue for discussions about human rights in Iran.

We require no membership fee or formal applications. If you are interested in our cause, we ask that you please submit your relevant reports, essays, journal articles, or visual material with the understanding that all submissions will be posted on the web after an initial review. Along with your submission, please also include a copyright release giving us the permission to post your material on our website.

Thank you for considering our invitation.
